ORLANDO, FLORIDA (November 25, 1996) -- Galaxy Foods Company (Nasdaq: GALX) is pleased to announce that it has joined forces with The Pepsi-Cola Company, a division of Pepsico (PEP) to introduce a Galaxy Foods health and fitness program on The Golf Channel, the only 24 hour network solely dedicated to bringing the best of golf to the world. The program will focus on diet and health, injury prevention, rehabilitation technique and mental preparation and will give Galaxy products tremendous exposure both domestically and internationally. The Golf Channel will be in 6.5 million homes by year end, 14 million by the end of 1997 and 4,000 clubhouses nationwide. Internationally, The Golf Channel recently debuted on Japanese Cable Television and expects to debut in Taiwan, Australia and Canada in 1997. The network was co-founded by golf legend Arnold Palmer, cable television pioneer Joe Gibbs and is one-third owned by Fox Broadcasting.
"The demographics are perfect for Galaxy's healthy cheese and cheese related products. The Golf Channel subscriber typically tunes in 5 hours per week, is 47 years of age with the majority earning in excess of $50,000 per year," said Angelo S. Morini, Galaxy's President.
"Golfers epitomize the true meaning of sport and usually demand the best of themselves - both mentally and physically. Presently, in the United States, there are over 25 million golf enthusiasts and 2 million new golfers each year making it the fastest growing sport in the U.S. Golf is also the number one sport in Japan and is growing rapidly in China and other Pacific Rim countries. Galaxy's international exposure on The Golf Channel should enhance our technology licensing opportunities around the world," Morini further stated. Pepsi-Cola, the official soft drink of the P.G.A. of America, will sponsor the program. Galaxy's cost will be minimal.
The Company will provide programming ideas; something with which Galaxy is very familiar. During the early 1990's Galaxy produced several successful cable programs called Formgg Presents Cooking with the Stars with celebrities such as Dom DeLuise, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Chad Everett and many others. "These cooking shows brought a significant rise in popularity to Galaxy's branded products and Galaxy expects its new Golf Channel health and fitness show to do the same," Morini added.
Joseph Juliano, Pepsi's Vice President of Entertainment, stated, "The Pepsi-Cola Company and The Golf Channel are working together to develop a joint program to increase Pepsi distribution at approximately 9,000 P.G.A. of America affiliated golf courses. I believe the show's healthy format, promoting Galaxy's fine products together with Pepsi-Cola, Pepsi's All Sport drinks and Aquafina water is a great start to the joint program."
Joe Gibbs, President of the Golf Channel stated, "we are very excited about our health and fitness program with Galaxy and Pepsi as sponsors and are looking forward to a long and prosperous relationship with both companies."
